No. 1-DUBROVNIK
Number one on "must see" list, this magical city in southern part of Croatia is truly “the pearl of the Adriatic”. Dubrovnik was greatest rival to Venice between 14th - 19th century and thrived as independent republic.
Thick stone walls at some points exceeding 25ft. encircle and protect the old section of the city now entirely under UNESCO protection. Dubrovnik is one of 10 “must see” attractions not only in Croatia but in entire Europe. It has become favorite port of call for almost every commercial cruise line as well as private yachts.
Dubrovnik was originally built by Greeks as Raguia and then came the Romans who called it Ragusium or Ragusa. Then came Napoleon in 1808.
