POSITION AND CLIMATE of HOTEL MEDENA Trogir Croatia
Hotel Medena is located on the central Adriatic. The entire central Dalmatia is characterized by mild climate with predominantly damp winters and dry and hot sunny summers. The mountains of Kozjak, Mosor and Biokovo protect the Split and Trogir rivieras from the impact of the continental climate from the northern parts of Croatia. The sea here is exceptionally blue, the purest sea in Europe, with the largest number of sunny days a year. A frequent summer wind is mistral – a harbinger of nice weather. Sirocco brings rain, while bora, a very cold and strong wind, drives away the clouds in winter.

RURAL TOURISM in HOTEL MEDENA Trogir Croatia
Drawing primarily from proven Italian and Istrian models, the Split-Dalmatian County, including the City of Trogir, started with the project of ethno-/eco-villages, special settlements for excursionists, with accommodation, as well as agrotourist, artistic or combined settlements, with the purpose of preservation of the cultural heritage, reconstruction of old houses, economic and other facilities, stopping of depopulation and return of the local population, revival of traditional production and old crafts, and health food production.
For our clients there is a possibility of organised visits to family farms (Boti - Opor, Rušinovi i, Drvenik Veli Ka ine), wineries (including wine-themed evenings at the hotel), participation in harvesting of olives and grapes, as well as fishing (with local fishermen).
GASTRONOMIC TOURISM in HOTEL MEDENA Trogir Croatia
The Hotel has a top-class master chef, but also works with the chefs from the surrounding towns and farms, thus enabling our guests to taste original home-made Dalmatian cuisine. We also enable our guests to participate in cooking classes and competitions in preparation of local dishes.
The cuisine of Dalmatian islands is a distinctive world, their distinguishing features having been discovered only recently, such as the cuisine of the islands of Hvar, Korčula, Brač (vitalac, a dish made from lamb offal wrapped in lamb gut and spike-roasted), Vis (spike-roasted pilchards, as during the Ancient Greek period; flat cake with pilchards from Komiža and Vis, similar to the modern-day pizza). Fresh sea fish (dog's tooth, gilthead, sea-bass, grouper, mackerel, pilchards) grilled, boiled or marinated; molluscs (squid, cuttlefish, octopus), crustaceans (shrimps, lobsters) and shellfish (mussels, oysters, date-shells) boiled in a fish stew or as a risotto. Of the meat dishes, prosciutto is unarguably unrivalled – pork leg smoked and dried in the bora (from Drniš), served with dry, mostly sheep’s cheese (famous sorts of cheese are those from Pag and Dubrovnik) and salted green and black olives, capers and pickled onions. Lamb is also very highly valued, especially boiled or baked on an open fire (Franjevačka begovica from Visovac, or lopiz from the island of Iž); also, dried mutton (kaštradina), roast beef, Dalmatian stew (pašticada) with gnocchi, offered by many restaurants. Lightly boiled vegetables are also favourite dishes (Swiss chard with potatoes, tomato sauce), often a mixture of cultivated and self-sown vegetables, spiced with olive oil and wine vinegar, or served with meat (manestra – pasta with minced meat; arambašići –stuffed vine leaves).

Trogir is situated in central Dalmatia, on the Adriatic coast. Because of its location and naturally sheltered position, its port is nautical tourists' favourite destination. Numerous historic landmarks, such as Dubrovnik, Šibenik, Zadar and national parks, are located in the radius of only several hundred kilometres. Upon inquiry, there is a possibility of organised guided excursions to Trogir, Zadar, Šibenik, Dubrovnik and Split.
Since 1997, Trogir has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites as a well-preserved example of a Romanesque island city. Trogir is also an extraordinary example of urban planning continuity.
The octagonal street plan of the island part of the City dates from the ancient Greece.
Powerful rulers added to the City their own public and personal architectural designs and fortresses. The city has beautiful Romanesque churches and numerous beautiful Renaissance and baroque buildings from the Venetian period.
