Today, the City of Split is the largest Dalmatian city and port. 1700 years ago, during the time of Ancient Rome, it was founded on the Marjan Peninsula surrounded by the historical towns of ancient Salona and Trogir. We will stroll the narrow streets of Diocletian’s Palace, built by the 4th century Roman Emperor, tour its excellently preserved basement galleries and visit the old Temple of Jupiter in the central, ancient Peristyle Square, today the city Cathedral and the oldest building of its kind in the world. We will also pass the protected Golden and Silver Gates, walk through the historical squares to the lively markets and Riva, the ideal place for strolling and Shopping.
Trogir, only half an hour from Split, is an exceptionally well preserved town from the Middle Ages, built on the site of the ancient Greek settlement Tragurion, with many buildings that bear witness to its rich history. Next to the Cathedral of St. Lovro, with the portal of Master Radovan, are the Town Loggia from the 15th century, the Ćipiko Palace, the Town Hall and the 11th century Benedictine Monastery.
